Who needs social media monitoring when…

Far from being a tool to aid criminal behaviour, a sinister Mr Big being hunted by the police was recently caught through Facebook.

It appears talk of the British police using social media monitoring software in the aftermath of the riots may be surplus to requirements, if the recent example of this mafia mastermind is typical.

The mafia boss had been on the run for a decade when Italian police saw photos of him on Facebook, which had been posted by his lover, posing outside the Nicki beach Club, in Marbella, Spain.

An Italian officer reported “He wasn’t very happy with his girlfriend.  It was very easy to find them from photos of her standing in front of a restaurant sign”.

So it appears that for the less honest members of society, Facebook and social media sites can be handy for handing yourself in, as well as organising illicit behaviour.
